California Sinking Faster Than Thought

08/21/2015 22:21
California is sinking even faster than scientists had thought, new NASA satellite imagery shows. Some areas of the Golden State are sinking more than 2 inches (5.1 centimeters) per month, the imagery reveals. Though the sinking, called subsidence, has long been a problem in California, the...

USGS Scientist: Major Quake On Hayward Fault Expected 'Any Day Now'

07/21/2015 21:48
The fault that produced a 4.0-magnitude earthquake in Fremont early Tuesday morning is expected to produce a major earthquake “any day now” and Bay Area residents should be prepared, a U.S. Geological Survey scientist said. The 2:41 a.m. earthquake on the border of Fremont and Union City occurred...

Massive Earthquakes and Tsunamis Now Confirmed Soon To Destroy U.S. Pacific Northwest

07/17/2015 07:40
When the quake does occur, its severe effects and the impacts of the following tsunami (“It will look like the whole ocean, elevated, overtaking land”) will be felt all the way from Canada to Sacramento, in densely populated cities like Seattle and Portland. Everyone has been prophesying this for...

Reporter says move! Massive Mega-Quake Could Destroy Pacific Northwest

07/16/2015 21:45
A new report predicts that a mega-earthquake could kill an estimated 13,000 people and destroy a sizable portion of the Pacific Northwest. Even more disturbing? It's overdue. The New Yorker reported that FEMA calculations show these types of earthquakes happen at regular intervals in this...

Helium Leaking from Earth in Southern California

07/02/2015 07:48
A natural helium leak in Southern California reveals that the Newport-Inglewood fault is deeper than once thought — with a direct line from the Earth's surface to the planet's hot, dense mantle. Scientists have found high levels of helium-3 in oil wells up to 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) deep in...

Giant earthquakes are shaking Greenland

06/26/2015 08:18
If Greenland goes, it is becoming clear that it won’t go quietly. Scientists have already documented entire meltwater lakes vanishing in a matter of hours atop the vast Greenland ice sheet, as huge crevasses open beneath them. And now, they’ve cast light on the mechanisms behind another dramatic...

Geologic activity increasing for Japan

06/17/2015 21:35
Mount Asama, 87 miles from Tokyo, is thought to have had a small eruption, the latest in a string of recent volcanic incidents across Japan. Mount Asama, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes, is believed to have spewed a small quantity of ash, but Tokyo was not affected, according to Kyodo...

Everest shifted 3 centimeters after Nepal quake

06/16/2015 07:42
Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, was moved three centimeters southwest by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that devastated Nepal in April, Chinese authorities say. But the April 25 quake, which left more than 8,000 people dead, did not affect the height of the 8,848-meter mountain, according...

Mystery: a strange, remarkable earthquake hit Wyoming

06/15/2015 07:23
An earthquake struck Wyoming two years ago that made little sense, scientifically speaking — but experts seem closer to solving the mystery, the BBC reports. Called the Wind River Earthquake, it hit with 4.7 magnitude in an area that rarely sees such seismic power. Hardly surprising, since the...

Earth is now in a seismically active period

05/25/2015 21:57
Following the second major earthquake that hit Nepal on 12 May, some scientists believe we could be seeing a seismically active period that began in 2004 and could end around 2019. However, predicting the quakes more accurately in time and space still remains a task for the future. The magnitude...

Giant hole forms at entrance of Missouri golf course

05/23/2015 21:42
A big sinkhole discovered Friday near the driving range of a southwest Missouri golf course is attracting the attention of geological experts. The hole, which is 80 feet wide and 35 feet deep in some places, was created by two separate sinkholes that formed near the entrance to Top of the Rock...

Tiny 'Crystal Cushion' Drives Earthquakes

05/19/2015 20:18
Earthquakes are some of the largest-scale and most-destructive events on the planet, involving plates of the Earth's crust hundreds of miles across. But new research shows that the physics of Lilliputians govern this shuddering of giants. Researchers found that both earthquakes that occur...

Earthquakes

We aren't promised to know the exact day or time for when the end will come, but just as we know the signs for seasonal changes, we can "read" certain signs that help us to know that we are entering the season for the rapture of the church, the tribulation, and His return to earth. In Jesus' discourse about the endtimes in Matthew 24, one of those signs are earthquakes. For some of Prophecy Dude's teaching on earthquakes, go to the "Tags" section on the News and Tweets page and click on earthquakes. There you will find a list of blogs that treat that subject.

On this page you will find updated feeds on earthquakes over the previous seven days with magnitudes of 5 and greater. A map feed is also provided to assist with identifying the location of these earthquakes. The picture below illustrates the concentration of earthquakes along fault lines and continental plate borders. Often Volcanoes are associated with tectonic plates especially in areas where they "rub' one another.
