More Big Earthquakes Coming to California, Forecast Says

03/12/2015 21:01
A new view of California's earthquake risk slightly raises the likelihood of big earthquakes in the Golden State, but lowers the chance that people in some regions will feel shaking from smaller, magnitude-6.7 quakes. The new report does not predict when or where earthquakes will strike, nor...

Oklahoma could be in danger of strong earthquakes

03/10/2015 21:52
For residents in Oklahoma, thousands of tiny earthquakes in the past five years have mostly been annoying. But a new study in Geophysical Research Letters suggests the future could be more dire, with the state possibly seeing larger temblors. It found that the same fault lines that have triggered...

SMU researchers say Dallas should prepare for larger earthquakes

03/04/2015 09:25
The 3.1 magnitude earthquake that hit Dallas Friday morning showed that this sequence of tremors is not dying down as quickly as many had hoped. “Past sequences have popped up and decayed,” said SMU seismologist Brian Stump. “This most recent event reminds me that we need to continue to monitor...

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The chances of the New Madrid "big one" rocking the area may be greater than previously thought, according a recent update of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Seismic Hazards Map. The update reflects the USGS's best and most recent understanding of when and where...

Oklahoma’s earthquake problem is getting worse

02/06/2015 06:36
A lawsuit claims that Oklahoma’s great increase in earthquake activity has been caused by pumping waste from drilling operations back underground. The suit involves the largest measured quake in the history of the state, a 5.6 tremor that happened in Prague, east of Oklahoma City in November 2011....

Earth will rip open like a zipper, expert says, when overdue Vancouver Island quake strikes

01/19/2015 07:39
PACHENA BAY, B.C.—The low tide, bright sunshine and constant roar of endlessly approaching waves display the full power of the wide-open Vancouver Island shoreline at the remote beach handed down to Stella Peters and her family as a wedding dowry. For generations, Peters and her relatives have...

New Look at 'Creeping' San Andreas Fault

01/13/2015 20:39
A small part of the San Andreas Fault that was thought to quietly slide without shaking its neighbors may actually be capable of strong earthquakes, including magnitude-6 shakers, a new study finds. The San Andreas Fault is divided into three legs. The middle leg has long been treated as a benign...

Why have there been so many earthquakes off the coast of B.C.?

01/11/2015 09:18
Over the past month there have been 169 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or above off the coast of British Columbia. Is this a sign of the “big one?” “There has been a slight increase in activity,” said Alison Bird, seismologist with Natural Resources Canada. “But from time to time we have swarm...

Earthquakes

We aren't promised to know the exact day or time for when the end will come, but just as we know the signs for seasonal changes, we can "read" certain signs that help us to know that we are entering the season for the rapture of the church, the tribulation, and His return to earth. In Jesus' discourse about the endtimes in Matthew 24, one of those signs are earthquakes. For some of Prophecy Dude's teaching on earthquakes, go to the "Tags" section on the News and Tweets page and click on earthquakes. There you will find a list of blogs that treat that subject.

On this page you will find updated feeds on earthquakes over the previous seven days with magnitudes of 5 and greater. A map feed is also provided to assist with identifying the location of these earthquakes. The picture below illustrates the concentration of earthquakes along fault lines and continental plate borders. Often Volcanoes are associated with tectonic plates especially in areas where they "rub' one another.
